The Boxwood Shrub is the Most Classic of the Hedge Making Shrubs

The boxwood shrub hedge maze was perhaps one of the most stunning things for people to do with plants back in the middle ages in Europe. Reserved for royalty due to their high cost and intense amount of work which went into the building and maintenance of them, the hedge maze was made possible by one particular shrub which is still extremely prized and popular to this day. The boxwood shrub, also known as simply the box shrub in other parts of the world, was the flora responsible for such impressive landscaping work as can be witnessed at Versailles in France and a myriad of other royal palaces throughout medieval Europe. Since this shrub is indigenous to Europe (although there are species which grow in other parts of the world), it has become a major landscaping keystone for those wishing to create a smaller version of a classic European garden in on their own property. You can purchase a shrub in one of two forms: bush or tree. They are slow growing plants which will eventually reach a maximum height of about twelve meters, although some exceptionally well taken care of boxwood shrubs have reached a height of fifteen meters. Some varieties of the boxwood shrub produce flowers and non-edible fruit while others are characteristically non-flowering. Types of climate which you choose to grow your shrub in determines the amount of flowers and time in which your boxwood shrub will flower and produce fruit. While the classic use for these shrubs was to create topiaries, hedges and hedge mazes, the shrub can also be used for other purposes as well. One of which is to harvest boxwood from it. It is a dense wood which has found important use throughout the centuries as an excellent wood for carving. No matter what you choose to use your boxwood shrub for, chances are you will find it a great plant with an incredible versatility...
